Anaar:
Dance and the New Expressionism
In
this workshop, we will push the boundaries of common bellydance
movements in a highly unusual fashion. Learn to combine
undulations with locking movements and sliding footwork
to give your performance a sense of mystery, power and presence.
Also included in this workshop are source materials for
my many strange inspirations. If time allows, extreme balancing
movements will also be covered. This workshop is designed
for the intermediate to advanced level student, but advanced
beginners will be able to take something home with them.
Please
bring leather soled shoes, not rubber soled ones.
Bio: Anaar has studied with many of the masters of Tribal,
including Fat Chance Belly Dance and Ultra Gypsy. She has
a Masters degree in Arts and Consciousness and has spent
nearly two decades studying the relationship between The
Sacred and its expression through the Arts. She is known
for her intense and passionate improvisational themes and
for storytelling through dance. Her unique handcrafted costumes
and dance accessories not only pushes the boundaries, but
have also won awards, and earned a permanent home in the
Textile Research Centre in Leiden, The Netherlands. In addition,
she has begun to teach this fusion of sacred dance internationally.

Karma:
Rockin' Sockin' Belly Dance!
Ever want to just get up and dance until you fall down exhausted?
Get what you want in this high-energy, thrilling workshop!
Drill transitions and layering galore, then put it all together
into a groovy, fun choreography that will make your feet smile!
Bio: Karma has been dancing for as long as she can
remember. Her mother taught her to waltz and swing almost
as soon as she could walk, and it was all downhill from there!
Since then, she has taken classes in swing, ballroom, funk
jazz, hip hop, drill, and pretty much any other dance style
she could get her hands on. Her love for bellydance was both
immediate and overwhelming. From the first minute of her first
class she was hooked, and has been absurdly happy ever since!
She loves to combine stylings in unique ways, making gothic
fun and making sassy sultry, and adores playing to (and with)
her audiences! She teaches in Newbury Park, CA. |
Elizabeth
Mahina: Island Influence
Tribal fusion has taken quite an influence from Polynesian
dance. Join Elizabeth as she teaches exciting tribal fusion
combos that are inspired from Hula, Tahitian, Maori, and Samoan
dances. Skill level- Enthusiastic beginner to advanced.
About Elizabeth: Elizabeth Mahina was raised as a dancer
from the time she was 4 years old and began performing as
a Polynesian dancer professionally by the age of 6. She studied
ballet & jazz throughout her childhood & during her
college years in Santa Cruz she began to study belly dance.
In
2003 Elizabeth started taking tribal style from Ayse Cerami,
director of Sundara Varna. This was the beginning of a friendship
that has been a major influence in her dance career. Since
then she has been able to fine tune her varied dance and
artistic background into a cohesive belly dance fusion style.
In January 2007 she completed Basic Skills Certification
in ATS by Carolena Nericcio. She continues to take classes
and workshops from as many teachers as possible.
Elizabeth
has taught workshops at Tribal Ford, U.K.; Tribal Caravan,
Los Angeles; the IBDC in Las Vegas; & Bedouin Bazaar,
San Diego. She directed Raks Ohana, a dance troupe using
Polynesian and Belly Dance influences. She has performed
with and assisted in directing the Conejo Valley chapter
of the Sisterhood Dance Collective and is currently director
for the newly formed Los Angeles dance troupe Nataraja and
co-director of She'enedra along with Ayse Cerami.
She
teaches and performs nationally & internationally as
a soloist as well as dancing with her troupes.

Rose
Harden: Finessing Your Fusion
This workshop is great for dancers looking to develop their
unique voice in contemporary fusion belly dance. Expand
your movement base and learn Rose's approach to fusing different
elements drawn from a rich background that includes Contemporary
dance, Afro-Haitian, Latin dance and more.
The workshop will begin with dance technique and drill work
that will focus on alignment, body awareness, and additional
concepts that are useful for belly dance of any style. We
will then move on to combos that showcase the seamless integration
of other dance forms in to a recognizable belly dance framework.
The last 20 minutes of this workshop will be a seminar style
discussion on using your inspirations to craft successful
fusion dancing and integrating all components of performance
to help you realize your personal vision.
